The Origin of CranioSacral Therapy

The CranioSacral Therapy was established in the early twentieth century when Dr. W.G. Sutherland comes to a consideration: observation of a broken skull, and in particular by indented conformation of its sutures, understood that for these were arranged formed as a real articulation between a bone of the skull and the other, equipped with cartilage and with capacity of movement. The keystone of this system is that the Sphenoid Bone, placing itself at the center, It articulates with all the bones of the skull and face.

The system components are: the skull bones, the vertebrae, meninges which run into the spinal canal to blend with the filum at the level of the second terminal tail bone vertebra.

The examination is done by checking the movement of all parts of the system. The therapist will assess gently mobility of the cranial bones, the vertebrae and the sacrum between the iliac bones. Treatment consists of palpation of anomalies and restrictions of the craniosacral rhythm.
